A rather dirtied up little sign and pole, completely contrasted with the clean and shine of the signs in the background. During the winter, the Freedom Tower is visible from all views from both 9/11 memorial pools. Featured in this picture are those lost (respectively, top row to bottom) from Battalion 48, Ladder 16, and Engine 26.
I like both looks hereβthe left runs as informational, showing us as many details as possible, while the right runs as showing the artistic nature of the description, focusing on how in its modernity in some ways steals the show from the magnificent statue (Prometheus, 1933) in the background.
This sign, celebrating the 50th anniversary of SNL, is placed in the sight-line of the Comcast building, and between shrubery, that paint the signβand the show itselfβas this beauty of nature that, whilst man-made ultimately (Comcast Building), it has turned into an animal of its own, controlled less by the creatives, but the environment and culture of the times.
